Always envied your man for wielding that set of wheels? When it comes to driving men still rule the roads.

However, that is all set to change with a new car rally that's coming to town. While an all women team will prove to be an advantage, for those who have their men for company, will have to do away with the edge. We tell you more.



Precision driving

The Women Car Rally 2009 is a TSD (Time Speed Distance) event, which will take place on October 2 and will cover various routes starting from Delhi to Agra. In this rally, in addition to the route instructions, participants are also assigned particular speeds to be maintained during different legs. These speeds are always legal and often are below the posted speed limit. The competition is of precision driving hence it is not a race. Each team will consist of a navigator and a driver, one of which has to be a woman. The team that completes the course first without neglecting any of the instruction will be the winner. Rally marshals at the time-checks time each team and their time is compared against a perfect time. Travelling too fast attracts penalties as does travelling too slowly.

No special vehicle preparation is required and your daily use car can participate in the event. However, get your vehicle serviced and ensure that all systems are in proper running conditions. Although special changes to the vehicle is allowed but are really not required and will not be of any great help. The event is being organised by the NGO Forum for breast cancer protection awareness.u00a0 "On October 1, we will be conducting a special workshop to explain all the details of the rally. Being a woman will certainly help in this rally as any male driver or navigator will attract penalty points," informs Karuna Sharma, the organiser of the event.
