Earlier on Sunday, November 2, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final to lift their first-ever global title in Navi Mumbai, following which the squad, along with head coach Amol Muzumdar and BCCI president Mithun Manhas, met the Prime Minister in Delhi on Wednesday.
Celebrating their winning campaign, Team India on Thursday left for New Delhi, and after meeting the Prime Minister, they are scheduled to meet the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, during the meeting with the Prime Minister, said, "I still remember when we met you in 2017. At that time, we did not come with a trophy. But it is a matter of great honour for us that this time, for something we have been working so hard for for so many years, we have brought the trophy here," according to the video posted by PM Modi on X.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet further added that, "Our aim is that we meet you again and again in the future and take photos with you and your team again and again," as per PTI.
During their second appearance in the Women's World Cup final in 2017, India had lost to England by a mere nine runs, after which the squad had met the Prime Minister.
PM Modi further replied that, "You have done a great job. In India, cricket is not just a game. In a way, it has become the life of the people of India. If there is good happening in cricket, India feels good, and even if there is a little bit of wrong happening in cricket, the whole of India feels bad," as per PTI.
