Violence over 'distribution of money'

On the last day of campaigning for Thursday's civic polls, Chandrakant Tingre, husband of NCP's woman candidate from Dhanori (Panel no 1) Rekha Tingre, was severely injured after a violent clash erupted between him and Congress' woman candidate Monika Tingre's husband Shashikant Tingre and her supporters, who had accused Chandrakant of distributing money among voters for garnering votes.

As cross complaints were lodged with Vishrantwadi police against both the Tingres, they accused each other of initiating the fight. While Chandrakant Tingre is recuperating at Jehangir Hospital, court remanded Shashikantu00a0 Tingre to a day's police custody yesterday.

Shashikant in his statement said that he had received a tip off that Chandrakant was to distribute money in the panel and to prevent him from doing so, Shashikant along with a few party activists, intercepted Chandrakant's convoy of three vehicles near Munjawe Wasti yesterday afternoon around 1.30 pm and demanded to check the vehicles' trunks for cash. However, they just recovered Rs 20,000.

"The groups clashed after Chandrakant was attacked by Shashikant's people. The latter also smashed windshields of Chandrakant's Ford Ikon and Maruti Swift. Shashikant informed us about the alleged money distribution by Chandrakant. However just Rs 20,000 were recovered from the vehicles," said S S Kale, police sub inspector, Vishrantwadi police station, who is investigating the case.
