Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Mumbai to inaugurate India Maritime Week 2025. Amit Shah, while addressing the public at Nesco Centre in Goregaon, outlined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s transformative maritime vision, emphasising that it rests on three key pillars: security, sustainability, and self-reliance.

Speaking at the Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, Amit Shah said that “India is steering towards becoming a global maritime powerhouse through a series of strategic and future-oriented initiatives.”
The Union Home Minister in Mumbai also highlighted flagship programmes such as SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), Sagarmala, the Blue Economy, and the Green Maritime Vision. The flagship programmes hinted at by the Home Minister are all aimed at enhancing port infrastructure, promoting environmental sustainability, and strengthening regional cooperation.
Amit Shah further said that, “Our goal is to make India one of the top five countries in the global shipbuilding industry.”
Amit Shah further added that, “The government aims to achieve 10,000 million metric tonnes of port handling capacity annually. He also noted that port operations have been fully digitised, improving efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness.”
Shah also highlighted India’s growing role in global connectivity through projects like the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), the Eastern Maritime Corridor, and the North–South Transport Corridor.
Amit Shah also described that the maritime sector plays a vital role in expanding India’s influence in international trade and logistics.
Understanding the importance of India’s maritime diplomacy, Shah further added that “Delegates from over 100 countries are present, a testament to the fact that India’s maritime heritage remains central to global partnerships and regional stability. Today, India Maritime Week has emerged as the most prestigious maritime dialogue platform in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Reaffirming India’s cooperative approach, the Union Home Minister said, “India believes in mutual cooperation, not competition. Through collaboration, we have developed a comprehensive roadmap to connect our maritime industry with global maritime networks.”
Reflecting on the maritime sector evolution over the past eleven years under Prime Minister Modi, the Union Home Minister further asserted that “India’s maritime sector today stands as a symbol of national strength, regional stability, and global prosperity. As two-thirds of global trade and 90% of India’s trade move through the Indo-Pacific, our maritime resurgence is central to the vision of a secure and prosperous future.”
