In a major outbreak, the security forces on Monday foiled a major narcotic smuggling attempt from across the international border. Security Forces during the operation recovered two bags, dropped by a Pakistani drone. The bag confiscated by the forces allegedly contained over five kg of heroin worth over Rs 25 crore in the international market, officials said.

As reported by news agency PTI, the recovery of narcotics was made near Border Outpost Jatinder in the R. S. Pura sector during a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and police.

The officials, while asserting about the operation, said that “The search operation was launched at around 6 am after a Pakistani drone was seen hovering over the Indian side,” as cited by news agency PTI.

A BSF spokesman, while hailing the security forces’ operation, said that, acting on precise intelligence, troops foiled yet another attempt by Pakistan-based smugglers to push narcotics into Indian territory.

The BSF spokesperson asserted, “During a search operation launched in the morning hours of October 27 near village Bidipur, alert BSF personnel recovered two yellow-coloured packets (containing 10 small packets wrapped within them) weighing approximately 5.300 kg,” as cited by news agency PTI.

He further added, “Suspected contraband was recovered from farmland near the village of Bidipur. The substance is suspected to be heroin and appears to have been drone-dropped from across the border. A thorough search of the area is ongoing,” as per PTI.

He further emphasised that police have been called to take further necessary action, and further investigations about the same are now underway.

A police official further stated that the case under relevant sections of law was registered, and further investigation is ongoing.

Earlier on October 26, the Border Security Force also seized heroin, pistols and drones near Amritsar and Ferozepur

As per IANS, the BSF troops on Sunday, during an operation, recovered a packet of heroin, weighing 553 grams, from an agricultural field at Bhaini Rajputana near Amritsar.

A day earlier, acting on a tip-off provided by the intelligence wing, BSF troops on duty also recovered one DJI AIR 3S drone near Daoke village in Amritsar, IANS reported.

An official statement from authorities read, “In view of eliminating any chance of terror activities around the border region, the BSF troops have successfully neutralised and recovered one DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone carrying one pistol with a magazine from a farming field near Kahangarh village in Amritsar."
