The Indian Navy is hosting the fifth edition of the Indo-Indonesian bilateral maritime exercise 'Samudra Shakti – 2025' from October 14 to 17 at Visakhapatnam, an official statement said on Wednesday.
The exercise is part of efforts to boost naval cooperation and interoperability between India and Indonesia, two key maritime nations in the Indo-Pacific region.
The statement said that participating ships include the Indian Navy’s INS Kavaratti, an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) Corvette, and the Indonesian Navy’s KRI John Lie, a Corvette equipped with a helicopter.
KRI John Lie was warmly received by the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) upon arrival at Visakhapatnam.
The exercise is divided into two phases -- Harbour Phase and Sea Phase.
During the harbour phase, both navies are taking part in cross-deck visits, joint yoga sessions, friendly sports matches and expert exchanges on professional topics. These activities aim to build friendship and deepen professional understanding between the two navies, the statement said.
It further said that in the upcoming sea phase, the navies will carry out a range of maritime operations to boost tactical coordination, including helicopter operations, air defence drills, weapon firing exercises and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS operations).
These complex drills will help both navies work better together in real-world maritime situations.
