Killzone 3 picks up where the previous installment left off, and frankly, the situation you find yourself in isn't good.u00a0 Your enemy, the Helghan, have regrouped after the death of their leader and they're in the midst of launching an almighty onslaught on Earth. It's not quite that simple though, with both the Helghan and the Interplanetary Space Alliance wracked by infighting and division.

All this makes for some fine action but not necessarily the best storyline. In fact, that was my main problem with Killzone 3. It's a perfectly playable, attractive shooter game, but at no point did it really grab me. The central characters lack the charisma you need for a series to become a classic.

The actual gameplay however is very good. There's plenty of fast-paced action and although I had problems adjusting the zoom on the assault rifle (too many rounds of Black Ops), like anything else it becomes second nature soon enough. The cover mechanic isn't perfect but it's not a deal breaker.

In terms of visuals, Killzone 3 is a major triumph. It looks fantastic and although that's become almost somewhat standard, there were still plenty of occasions where the stunning graphics made me sit up and take notice.

Killzone 3 isn't quite up there but it's well worth a look for those who want some classic, no-frills shooting action.
