"It's a first by the wildlife cell with help from volunteers across the city," said R Sharath Babu, environment advisor, BBMP forest cell. Through the initiative, Bangaloreans will learn simple ways to attract birds like feeding them on terraces twice a day and maintaining water baths. SMSes also request people to adopt trees, install artificial nests and plant bush that attract butterflies. "We are able to reach large number of Bangaloreans through these methods," added Sharath. Last year, the officials had managed to rehabilitate birds in Rajajinagar, RMV extension and Dollars Colony, through the initiative, Banadigale marali banni.u00a0 Buoyed by the success, officials aim to rehabilitate about 300 species of birds that include the Barbet, Sunbird and Myna. "We welcome this," said Shashidhar P, a resident in Yelahanka. "Many species of birds have moved out due to increase in pollution and decrease in their habitat area. We hope the initiative will check such migration in the days ahead."
