The City of Nawabs has earned a global honour, with Lucknow officially inducted into UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network (CCN) under the “Gastronomy” category. The recognition celebrates the city’s centuries-old culinary legacy, from its famed kebabs to its delicate sweets, marking a proud moment for Uttar Pradesh.

The CCN acknowledges cities worldwide that use creativity as a driver of sustainable urban development. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay named 58 new cities to the network on October 31, bringing the total to 408 across more than 100 countries.

For Lucknow’s food lovers, the global nod is a validation of a long-cherished legacy. “We don’t just love having good food, we take great pride in serving it too,” says Mohd Usman, owner of the iconic Tundey Kebab shop

“I am glad that UNESCO has recognised this aspect of Lucknow and I call upon people from around the world to visit Lucknow and discover its uniqueness,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X.
