With Maharashtra Advocate General&nbsp;Shreehari Aney's statement that Marathwada should be made a&nbsp;separate state sparking furore in the state legislature, a&nbsp;senior BJP minister today said he would probably be asked to&nbsp;resign.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has decided to ask Aney&nbsp;to step down and an announcement is expected tomorrow in the&nbsp;House, the Minister said on condition of anonymity.
"The CM has made up his mind to ask Aney to resign. When&nbsp;the House reassembles tomorrow, the CM is expected to make a&nbsp;formal announcement," he said.
Senior Shiv Sena Minister Ramdas Kadam, meanwhile, told&nbsp;reporters that ministers from his party would not take part in&nbsp;cabinet meetings and the party would not let the legislature&nbsp;function till Aney was ousted.
"Marathwada bore more injustice than Vidarbha and should therefore be independent," Aney said at an event in Jalna district yesterday.&nbsp;He also called people of Marathwada to start a movement for formation of a separate state.
Aney had sparked controversy in December 2015 after&nbsp;calling for a referendum on the issue of carving out a separate Vidarbha state.
"If 51 per cent people vote in favour of statehood, then the Centre should create a separate Vidarbha state. I know for sure that more than 80 per cent people in the region will vote in favour of it and that is why the Central government does not have the courage to go in for a referendum," Aney had said at a function to release his book 'Vidarbha Gatha' (The saga of Vidarbha) in Nagpur.
