The uneven roads at Gadital junction results in frequent water-logging, giving the pedestrians a harrowing time and causing severe traffic congestion

Gadital is a busy junction located on the Pune-Solapur Road ufffd where the frequency of accidents is high ufffd and is used by lakhs of residents in the entire Hadapsar and Magarpatta City nearby. Although, special pedestrian and cycle tracks have been designed along with the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor on the Fatima Nagar to Hadapsar stretch of Solapur road, water-logging is the biggest problem faced by commuters here.

Survey results and proposed solutions

Sant Savata Hospital
Problem: In front of the Sant Savata hospital, a huge water body has been created owing to the uneven roads. The flyover culminates at this spot, leaving just one lane for vehicles. Two-wheelers zooming past this lane squirt water on pedestrians, who have no other option but to risk getting splashed with dirty water.

PMC's promise: Junior Engineer T J Sonawane and Sunil Bhongle inspected the spot and found that there was no path for rainwater to run into the drains. They assured the problem would be solved in a stipulated time period. Sonawane said, "A new drain will be constructed at the spot and through an underground pipe, water will be carried into the nallah nearby. Tenders will be floated and once the work order is released, the actual work will start."

Canal Road junctionu00a0
Problem: The footpath is occupied by shops and stalls, leaving no room for pedestrians. So, they have to walk on the road that is dotted with puddles. This creates traffic blocks at peak hours. There are many drains on the stretch but they are of no use. Besides, water collects at certain spots because of uneven roads, some of them right next to the drains.

PMC's promise: PMC engineer Bhongle said, "A small drain will be made at the canal road junction. This will help water to flow into the nallah, through the main drainage lines. The work will be completed in a short while.Uneven roads will also be repaired."
