Rai had started the running group, which had a two-pronged aim, to help young talented runners excel at long distance running and increase awareness about Indian Gorkhas, outside of Darjeeling. The July 14 report called &lsquo;Solemate Searching&rsquo; focused on how Rai needed running shoes for the young athletes who have loads of running talent but not enough money to buy running shoes. On reading the report, diamond merchant LB Mehra contacted Rai and asked her to meet him at Phoenix Mills&rsquo; Palladium Mall. Rai smiles, saying, &ldquo;He bought 13 pairs of Nike shoes for runners of team Run with Roshni and three pairs of running socks for each runner. The total bill he paid in the Nike store was Rs 70,000. I am amazed to meet such generous people; I cannot thank him enough and his family too.&rdquo; She wil now head back to Darjeeling, to hand over the shoes to the runners who are training in high-altitude conditions. On the paper&rsquo;s part, one can say:
&lsquo;If I have stopped one marathon runner
From giving up, I have not written in vain
If I have eased some soles the aching; and lessened some running pain; If I helped even one young athlete
To race past the finish line again
I have not written in vain&rsquo;.
