Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation will spend Rs 5 to 7 crore to install wire rope crash barriers on the 12-km stretch of Palm Beach Road to curb accidents
The 12-km stretch of Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai will soon get wire rope crash barriers in four rows. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken this decision after the installation of ramblers, traffic signals and cat-eyes on the road have failed to curb the large number of accidents.u00a0
Since January 2012, almost 300 accidents have occurred in Navi Mumbai area, out of which 57 accidents occurred on Palm Beach Road. Eleven people lost their lives in nine fatal accidents. Wire rope crash barriers contain stretchable galvanised steel ropes that stop a vehicle, which loses control after colliding on the road divider or any hard object off the road. This reduces chances of mortality and serious injuries.
