Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to implement the new hawker’s policy from April 1. The civic body has set a deadline to register around 15,000 street vendors in the city and issue them biometric cards prior to 31st of March.

PMC has already declared 45 city roads as ‘no-hawker zone’.

“In this meeting of all stakeholders, we have appointed a sub-committee, which will fix some of the spots on these 45 roads, where hawkers can be rehabilitated,” said Rajendra Jagtap, additional municipal commissioner.

The biometric registration of owners will also end misuse of renting out street shops to others.

“Along with biometric registration, we are also collecting family photographs of the stall owners, to ensure no outsider can do business in the same booth,” he revealed.

According to this new policy, if someone opens an unauthorised stall, PMC will first give him a warning, and after that, every time the vendor continues to break the law, he will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 5,000 and his licence would be terminated.
