On the backdrop of four low-intensity bomb blasts on the busy Jangli Maharaj Road in Deccan Gymkhana on Wednesday, Mayor Vaishali Bankar announced allotment of Rs 1 crore for the purchase of new CCTV units for the city police.

The decision was taken following Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) being blamed for non-functional CCTV cameras on J M Road. u00a0Without specifying the number of CCTV cameras to be purchased, Bankar said, “The decision was taken in a meeting with the civic body’s Commissioner Mahesh Pathak, Deputy Mayor Deepak Mankar, Leader of House, PMC, Subhash Jagtap and All Party Leader President Chetan Tupe.u00a0

“PMC has agreed to fund the purchase of CCTV units under the condition that the police will record and maintain all the equipment. We are not taking any responsibility of maintaining the CCTV cameras anymore,” Bankar said.
