<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/india-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Pongal</a>, a four-day harvest festival celebrated in South India, especially <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/tamil+nadu-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Tamil Nadu</a>, will be celebrated with great enthusiasm from January 15 this year.&nbsp;
Celebrated in mid-January every year, it also marks the beginning of Uttarayan- sun's journey towards north and end of winter season. Pongal is celebrated around the same time as other harvest festivals of India like Makar Sankranti and Lohri.&nbsp;

According to Drik Panchang, Pongal will celebrated on January 15 and the auspicious time or Thai Pongal Sankranti Moment will be at 08:57 pm on January 14.

Pongal 2023: Significance&nbsp;
Pongal is a four-day harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God. This festival is named after the traditional sweet dish Pongal (&ldquo;boiling over&rdquo;) made with rice boiled in milk with jaggery. It is first offered to the gods and goddesses and then enjoyed by the family.&nbsp;
Pongal conveys the notion of letting go of the past and welcoming new beginnings. It is believed that receiving the Sun&rsquo;s blessings results in &nbsp;good crop, as well as prosperity and happiness in people&rsquo;s lives. The celebrations run for four days, each with its own importance.
