Pune records wettest July in history as rainfall breaks 129-year IMD record

Pune has recorded its wettest July on record after the IMD's Shivajinagar observatory logged 508.9 mm of rainfall by the morning of July 29, surpassing the previous record of 508.5 mm. The city had already exceeded its normal monthly July rainfall within the first 10 days, reflecting an exceptionally intense monsoon

Pune has created meteorological history after the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Shivajinagar observatory recorded 508.9 mm of rainfall until the July 29 morning, surpassing the 508.5 mm recorded, according to IMD Senior Scientist SD Sanap.

The city had already crossed its normal average rainfall for the entire month of July within the first 10 days, indicating an unusually intense monsoon spell from the very beginning of the month.
