Railways mulling Metro-like doors for AC local trains
Updated On: 30 November, 2013 06:06 AM IST | | Shashank Rao
Concerned that doors will remain open for long at platforms, rail authorities are keen on Metro-like design for AC trains, which will enable seamless passenger movement
Aware of the extreme overcrowding on local trains, railway authorities are working out modalities to accommodate suburban rail passengers on the much-awaited air-conditioned trains. With nearly 75 lakh people thronging the suburban locals daily, railway officials are planning to introduce vestibuled trains to facilitate faster and easier boarding and alighting.

The vestibule coaches would enable passengers to get to other compartments to alight, thereby preventing crowding at the entrance, unlike the present local trains where commuters crowd the entrances. Representation pic
