Thirty-one police officers and personnel from the Gadchiroli Police Force have been awarded the President’s Police Gallantry Medal. The honours were announced on the eve of Republic Day 2026.

Across the country, a total of 121 Police Gallantry Medals were announced this year. Of these, 31 medals were awarded to personnel from Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.


The medals were awarded in recognition of brave and outstanding service during the Boriya–Kasanasur encounter, which took place on April 22, 2018. During the operation, Gadchiroli Police successfully carried out a major anti-Maoist action.



The gallantry shown by the officers and personnel during this encounter was officially recognised by the President of India.

Strong record of Gallantry Awards

In the past five years, Gadchiroli Police have received a total of three Shaurya Chakras and 217 Police Gallantry Medals. Earlier, on the eve of Independence Day 2025, seven officers and personnel from the district had also received the President’s Police Gallantry Medal.

List of award recipients

The 31 recipients include police inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, police naiks and constables. The awardees include Amol Fadtare, Madhukar Pochayya Naitam, Vasudev Rajam Madavi, Vilas Maroti Portet, Santosh Vasant Naitam, Vishwanath Sanyasi Sadmek, Dnyaneshwar Sadashiv Tore, Dilip Vasudev Sadmek, Ramsu Deu Narote, Anandarao Bajirao Usendi, Raju Pandit Chavan, Mohan Lachhu Usendi, Sandip Ganpat Vasake, Arun Kailas Meshram, Sudhakar Bitoji Veladi, Nitesh Gangaram Veladi, Vishwanath Laxman Madavi, Kailas Devu Kovase, Haridas Maharu Kulyeti, Kishor Chanti Talande, Atul Bhagwan Madavi, Anil Raghupati Alam, Narendra Dashrath Madavi, Akash Ashok Uike, Ghissu Vanja Atram, Raju Masa Pusali, Mahesh Dattuji Jakewar, Rupesh Ramesh Kodape, Mukesh Shankar Sadmek, Yogendrarav Upendrarav Sadmek and Kare Irpa Atram.

Promotions announced for police personnel

On the same occasion, 394 police personnel from Gadchiroli district were promoted. This included 10 accelerated promotions and promotions granted to 14 police personnel who were killed in action.

Eighty-two police constables were promoted to Assistant Sub-Inspector rank, including nine through fast-track promotion. A total of 302 police naiks were promoted to head constable, with one receiving accelerated promotion.

Promotions were also granted posthumously to seven martyred head constables and seven martyred police naiks.

Senior officers congratulate the force

Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal, along with Additional Superintendents of Police M. Ramesh, Kartik Madhira and Gokul Raj G., congratulated all medal recipients and promoted personnel. They praised their courage, dedication and service, and wished them success in their future duties.
