Retailers call off LBT protest, shops to reopen on Sunday

Mumbaikars can breathe a sigh of relief. After six days, shops are set to reopen across the city after retailers agreed to end the strike against the imposition of LBT. Wholesale markets are still undecided

Speaking to SUNDAY MiD DAY Viren Shah, president of the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association said, “Lot of retail shop owners wanted to call off the strike because of the festive season and many of them also said that a lot of inconvenience was being caused to the common man because of the ongoing strike. So we have decided to call off the strike. Our protest still goes on by the way of not registering with LBT, paying 5 per cent of VAT.”

From Sunday, the retailers shop from South Mumbai to Bandar and western of Vile Parle, Santacruz will open. However it should be noted that the decision to open the wholesale shops has not been taken yet by the wholesalers association.
