After the molestation of a schoolgirl by a bus driver and attendant, Pune RTO and the education board have decided to keep track of the operations of school buses.

They will develop a website where schools in the district will have to log in fill in complete details of the bus committees, meetings and other important information.

If any school is found violating the rules, immediate action will be taken. A deadline of June 30 has been given for completing the task.

“Our main focus is to tightly monitor school buses and ensure that every school bus has a female attendant in place. From April 23-26, we will be conducting workshops in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other rural areas, falling under Pune district for the principals of all government, private, aided and un-aided schools.

We will be briefing them about the formation of school bus committees and their responsibilities,” said Pune regional transport officer Jitendra Patil.

“At the meetings, key points such as the school administration’s responsibility, bus owner’s roles and duties, suggestions and complaints of parents about bus services will be discussed,” Patil added.

Deputy Director (Education, Pune Region) Suman Shinde said, “We have formed an inquiry committee which has two female officials to investigate such cases. After the committee submits a detailed report of their investigation, action will be taken. Our education officials too will conduct checks on school buses.”
