Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sunil Tatkare on Friday described Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda's recent remarks about Pakistan as "unfortunate" and "sad for India".

Speaking to ANI, Tatkare said, "It is sad for India. He also grew up in India and achieved his status in India... It is unfortunate..."

Pitroda had reportedly said in a media statement that he had been to Pakistan and "felt at home".

Earlier on Friday, Tatkare also criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his vote theft allegations, reported ANI. The NCP MP dismissed the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition’s statements as "childish" and claimed that he lacks understanding of election booth operations.

"This is a childish statement of the Leader of Opposition, he has no idea of the local or booth level..." Tatkare told reporters.

Responding to Gandhi’s allegations, Tatkare pointed out that the electoral roll is constantly updated, and after it is prepared, suggestions and objections are taken into consideration, reported ANI.

"Electoral roll is being modified all the while, and while it is published at a certain time, objections and suggestions can be taken," he said.

Tatkare further explained that booth officers and block officers from each party are selected, and questioned if the Congress MP believed his own party workers could have been involved in any vote theft, as they, too, were present at the booths.

"Booth-level officers from each party are chosen from each party. As per him, his people were present too. Does he believe that they, too, were involved in that activity? This is the question I want to ask," said Tatkare.

Gandhi had earlier alleged an attempt at vote theft in Karnataka's Aland constituency. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he claimed that someone had tried to delete more than 6,000 voters’ names in the 2023 elections in Aland.

"In Aland, Karnataka, 6018 votes, somebody tried to delete these votes. We don't know the total number of votes deleted in the 2023 elections, but somebody got caught. It was caught, by most crimes, by coincidence. What happened was that the Booth Level officer noticed that her uncle's vote had been deleted," Gandhi had said.
