The Satara Police in Maharashtra on Saturday said that it has formed multiple teams to investigate the case of the woman doctor found dead with a suicide note found written on her palm.

A police official said that one of the accused in the case has been arrested and another suspect was being traced.

"We have formed four teams to trace and nab the other accused," Satara Superintendent of Police, Tushar Doshi, told mid-day.

Satara police arrested one of the two accused in the suicide case of a woman doctor in Phaltan taluka of the district and the second accused, Police Sub-Inspector was absconding and a manhunt to nab him was underway.

Officials had earlier said that a woman doctor died by suicide in Satara on Thursday, leaving a note written on her palm that named a police officer and two others.

The 28-year-old doctor was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan town late on Thursday night. In a suicide note written on her palm, the physician, posted in Satara district in western Maharashtra, accused police official of rape and mental harassment, the police had earlier said.

A case has been registered against the accused under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The police sub-inspector named in the note has been suspended from duty.

“Our teams are making efforts to trace the two accused. A thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra has strongly condemned the Satara doctor's suicide and wrote a letter to CM Devendra Fadnavis demanding justice and reforms in the health sector.

In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 24, the IMA expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the incident.

The IMA Maharashtra has called for urgent justice, accountability, and reforms to protect doctors working in challenging conditions.

The letter written on Friday stated that the deceased doctor was posted at the Sub-District Hospital in Phaltan and she was allegedly subjected to sustained mental and physical harassment, despite reaching out to senior officials and police for help.

According to the association, she had even filed an RTI application to inquire about the inaction on her complaints.

The IMA, further in the letter, stated that her death highlights a serious failure of administrative response and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

It urged the government to take firm, transparent, and time-bound action to restore confidence among the medical community.
