Tiruchirappalli (TN): The head seer of the famous Sri Rangathaswamy temple in Srirangam and a group of devotees, who had gone to Nepal on Mukthinath Yatra, were safe and had reached Bagdogra when the massive earthquake struck the Himalayan nation, temple officials said today.

Sri Ranganarayana Jeer of the Sri Ranga Narayana Jeer Mutt and his team had completed their pilgrimage as per schedule. He would return to his mutt in Srirangam tonight, they said.
The Jeer accompanied by 127 devotees had left Chennai for Mukthinath on April 20. Some members of the team felt the impact of the tremor when they were near Bagdogra in West Bengal on way to Delhi after the pilgrimage was over.
Sri Ranga Narayana Jeer Mutt was established by Sri Ramanujar, an 11th century Vaishnavite saint, who administered the temple about 970 years ago.

The earthquake, the worst ever in over 80 years in Nepal, has claimed more than 1,900 lives in the Himalayan nation besides 53 in India.
