File pic</td></tr></tbody></table>exasperation and sheer desperation sent out a press release to media houses to stop referring to Hasan Ali Khan as a 'Pune-based stud farm owner'. Hasan Ali was jailed for a fake passport case last year and has been in the news recently in connection with money in Swiss banks. Satish Iyer, registrar, Stud Book Authority of India via telephone from the Book's Pune office, said, "The Stud Book Authority of India, the authority that registers stud farms and horses, states that Hasan Ali or his family do not own a stud farm anywhere in India at all." Iyer added that there was another body called the National Horse Breeding Society of India, which was equally concerned at the misconception. "The constant reference shows the breeding industry in poor light. The Authority, which has been functional since 1935, works like the Regional Transport Office (RTO) that registers vehicles. We also publish the Directory of Breeding Establishments, and update it periodically. Hasan Ali does not figure in the latest March 2009 issue and has not ever featured in any earlier issues too," he explained. Vivek Jain, chairman, media and marketing, Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), said, "Hasan Ali Khan is a race horse owner; not a breeder. He owns approximately a dozen horses. The Pune Breeders fraternity, especially, was concerned about him being wrongly called a stud farm owner." The Stud Book authority said that despite making a similar clarification in 2007, Hasan Ali continued to be referred to as a stud farm owner.
