Imphal: Two foreign nationals, possibly from the Middle East, were among three undertrial prisoners killed early on Saturday in violence inside the Sajiwa Central Jail in Imphal East district of Manipur, highly placed sources said. The Union Home Ministry has sought a report about the incident from the Manipur government.

The incident occurred at about 1 am on Saturday. Sources said two foreign nationals, identified as Sushak Ahmed and Abdul Salam, in their mid 40s, allegedly killed a local man, Thangmilien Zou of Churachandpur district of Manipur, shortly after midnight. Zou’s skull was smashed apparently with both blunt and sharp weapons, they said. It is yet to be established how the killers managed to get weapons into the prison.
