Continuous heavy rainfall has led to a flood-like situation in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, severely disrupting daily life due to waterlogging and overflowing rivers, reported the ANI.

In Karela Bagh, one of the worst-hit areas, residents were seen wading through knee-deep water, while one man was spotted using a boat to commute to work. He explained that the flooding began around 8 am and was caused by the overflowing Sasur Khaderi river.

“It’s extremely difficult to move around... water has entered homes, and it’s still raining,” he said, according to the ANI.

Meanwhile, in Varanasi, the water level of the river Ganga is rising steadily, nearing the danger mark of 71.26 metres.

According to the Central Water Commission, the river had already reached 69.98 metres as of Saturday.

The floodwaters have reached the top of Tulsi Ghat, prompting a ban on all boat operations in the area.

In response to the worsening conditions, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed ministers to visit the affected districts, inspect relief camps, and speak directly with impacted families. Senior officials including District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and Chief Medical Officers have been instructed to remain on-site and ensure 24/7 monitoring, as per the ANI.

The CM Adityanath has formed an 11-member ministerial team to supervise relief work in 12 flood-affected districts, stressing the need for urgency, transparency, and compassion.

He warned that negligence would not be tolerated.

He further ordered round-the-clock surveillance of embankments, swift drainage of waterlogged zones, and comprehensive support for food, shelter, medical aid, sanitation, and the specific needs of women and children in relief shelters, the news agency reported.

To prevent panic, the state government has also taken steps to curb rumours and misinformation, ensuring reliable public communication throughout the crisis.
