The water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have risen following heavy rainfall in their catchment areas. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 89.09 per cent.

As per the BMC on Sunday (August 3), the collective water stock in these reservoirs is 12,81,607 million litres, which amounts to 89.09 per cent of their total capacity.


Mumbai’s seven lakes that supply water to the city collectively hold 12.89 lakh million litres (ML) of water, which is approximately 89.09 per cent of their total capacity of 14.47 lakh ML. 



Among them, Modak Sagar is at 100 per cent capacity, while Tansa is at 98.45 per cent Middle Vaitarna is at 97.17 per cent. Bhatsa, the largest contributor, holds 6.14 lakh ML at 85.75 per cent capacity. Tulsi and Upper Vaitarna recorded 12 mm rainfall, while Vihar and Bhatsa received 1 mm and 2 mm, respectively. The total rainfall recorded by the Bhandup Complex till 9:00 AM is 1,279.00 mm.

Mumbai weather updates: Rainfall stays light, but tides climb high in city today

On Sunday, Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to see a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall throughout the day. 

Tide forecasts show a high tide at 5:52 PM today, reaching 3.00 meters, followed by another high tide on Monday at 8:43 AM, at 3.30 meters. Low tides are expected early on Monday at 1:03 AM (1.57 meters) and again at 2:49 PM (2.60 meters). Rainfall recorded between 8:00 AM on Saturday and 8:00 AM on Sunday is as follows: City – 1.75 mm, Eastern Suburbs – 2.05 mm, and Western Suburbs – 2.07 mm. 

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's Colaba registered a maximum temperature of 29.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.3 degrees Celsius, both near normal. Humidity levels stood at 95 per cent in the morning and 83 per cent by evening, with 3 mm of rainfall recorded during the day.

Santacruz recorded a maximum of 30.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.8 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was 94 per cent at 8:30 AM and dropped to 82 per cent by 5:30 PM. Rainfall measured at the station was also 3 mm.
