By April-May end, your ride on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and Western Express Highway (WEH) will be much smoother. File Photo Western Express Highway PWD Executive Engineer BB Lohar says, &ldquo;The State and Central governments have sanctioned Rs 16 crore for the repairs of various stretches on the 25.33-km WEH between Mahim and Dahisar toll plaza. The work has already begun and the road will be repaired before the monsoon.&rdquo; Taking note of the uneven paver blocks, which cause terrible traffic jams, the PWD has decided to construct a tar road. &ldquo;The paver blocks affect traffic the most during the monsoon, and so we have decided to replace them,&rdquo; said another official. The PWD is carrying out repair work only late at night, so as not to disrupt traffic. The road near the Sai Baba temple near Malad and the stretch between Malad and Kandivli are the worst affected on the north-bound stretch. The south-bound stretch near Pathan Wadi in Malad has already been repaired. The WEH stretch between Bandra and Dahisar is very important as several long distance buses and cars going towards Thane, Ghodbunder, Ahmedabad use this road. Around 50,000 vehicles ply on this road on an average every day. Between 2005-2008 the WEH was under the purview of MMRDA for widening and maintaining purpose. In 2009, the road was handed over to PWD after which it is looking after the road. Eastern Express Highway According to PWD Executive Engineer Rajendra Jawanjal, &ldquo;The government has already sanctioned Rs 12 crore for the repairing and resurfacing of the 25-km EEH stretch between Sion and Thane&rsquo;s Kapurbawdi. We have already started the work and by April-May end, we will repair various stretches on the EEH, where motorists are plagued by the uneven u00a0paver blocks.&rdquo; The EEH is an arterial road connection linking the eastern suburbs and Thane city with South Mumbai. Several long distance buses going towards Nasik from Mumbai use this highway. The Suman Nagar flyover from Sion and the route near Amar Mahal Junction are currently in the worst shape. u00a0
