Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed `Sengol` in the new Parliament building on May 28. `Sengol` originates from the Tamil word `semmai`, meaning `righteousness`. Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significance of the `Sengol` saying it has played a vital role in India`s history. This was handed over to India`s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to mark the transfer of power from the British to Indians. Earlier, PM Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla performed ‘Pooja’ to inaugurate the new Parliament building.
