He was born to father statesman Motilal Nehru and mother Swaruprani Thussu in Allahabad, in present-day Uttar Pradesh. The birth anniversary of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sunday-mid-day/article/pm-nehru-would-ask-me-to-take-a-break-23287797" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India's first prime minister</a> is also celebrated as Children's Day in India.
