The dawn of dystopian sci-fi is upon us! If it was not enough for AI to take over most other jobs, it is now possible for artificial intelligence to act and star in movies. Controversies were sparked when AI talent studio Xicoia started boasting about its impressive creation, an actor named Tilly Norwood. Launched by the Dutch technologist Emily Van der Velden as part of her company called Particle 6 Productions, Xicoia specialises in AI acting talent, with Tilly being the company’s first big project.
The creator added in an interview about how they want Tilly to be the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman. One of the plus points of having AI actresses is the limitless creativity one can explore with them, without worrying too much about budget restrictions.

Xicoia has also been building up Norwood’s social media pages, posting her pictures in dimly lit studios to exploring romance settings, thus showing off her versatility. Studios have been reported to have begun considering working with such talent, much to human actors’ dismay.
The actors’ guild SAG AFTRA mentioned in a statement that Tilly is not an actor, but a computerised character without any real-life experiences or emotions that could bring out the flair in her acting. Her creation is only predicted to put actual talent out of work without delivering a good performance. Velden responded to this by adding that the AI actress is not intended to sack actors, but to explore new forms of creativity and open up new possibilities for the film industry. However, Tilly has already begun attracting interest from talent agencies and fans. The age of actors without a pulse is not coming, maybe it is already here!
