British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday announced that children under the age of 16 will be barred from accessing social media platforms under a new government policy aimed at protecting young people from online harm and improving their mental well-being.

Making the announcement from 10 Downing Street in London, Starmer said the decision followed extensive consultations with parents, child safety advocates and experts, and described it as a necessary step to address growing concerns over the impact of social media on children.
