Chennai: Groundbreaking HIV researcher Dr Suniti Solomon, the first to bring to the world the prevalence of the infection in India in 1986 and one who successfully led research into the treatment of the deadly virus, passed away at her residence here today.

She was 76 and had been under treatment for two months for liver cancer, family sources said.
