India and the US have called on the Taliban to respect the human rights of all Afghans, and asked the new rulers to make sure that the territory is never used to threaten or attack any country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also raised concerns about Pakistan during talks with US President Joe Biden as well as at the broader four-way summit with the leaders of Australia and Japan. “A more careful monitoring of Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan—and on terrorism—is required,” Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said.
Biden’s Indian ‘relative’
PM Modi and President Biden shared a light moment during their bilateral summit as Modi said he had brought some papers regarding those in India who have the Biden surname. The US president had once said that when he was elected to the Senate as a 29-year-old kid, he got a letter from a person named ‘Biden’ —last name—from Mumbai. But he never followed it up. Modi said, “Since you had spoke about the Biden surname in India, I hunted for the documents and brought it along (sic).”
