Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is expected to visit the US this week for high-level consultations amid global trade tensions. This marks his second trip following Gen. Kurilla’s Pakistan visit. While no official word has been given, speculation grows over renewed US-Pakistan cooperation on trade and counterterrorism.

Amid ongoing global tensions over tariffs and trade conflicts, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is expected to visit the US this week. The Pakistan Army Chief's visit to the United States of America might be related to consultations with top American officials over international trade. This will be his second trip to Washington since the four-day conflict with India, a report said on Thursday.
In June, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir travelled to the US on a rare five-day trip. During his visit, he attended a private luncheon with President Donald Trump. That meeting culminated in Trump's announcement of enhanced US-Pakistan cooperation in various fields, including an oil deal, as reported by news agency PTI.
One of the leading newspapers in the United States of America has reported that Asim Munir might fly to the country for consultations. The newspaper, citing official sources, wrote, “Field Marshal Munir is expected in the US this week for consultations with his American counterparts,” as cited by news agency PTI.
It has been reported that sources told the media this would be a return visit, following a trip to Pakistan by Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), in late July.
Moreover, CENTCOM recalled Gen. Kurilla's recent visit to Pakistan and other countries in the region in a press statement issued on August 4, 2025.
Earlier during the visit, Gen. Kurilla was also conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) by the Pakistani government.
Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir was hosted by President Trump in an unprecedented gesture typically reserved for visiting heads of state or government during his previous visit to Washington.
However, there is still no official word from Inter-Services Public Relations or Pakistan's embassy on Asim Munir flying to the United States of America. But during his previous visit, the Army Chief had hinted that he expected to return to the US again later in the year. Speculation has certainly fuelled the fire across the globe.
The development comes just over a month after the US general described Pakistan as a ‘phenomenal partner’ in counterterrorism efforts during a congressional hearing, where he also praised Pakistan's role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Keeping in mind that relations between the US and Pakistan had been under strain after the killing of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden by US forces in May 2011 in a secret operation in Abbottabad, Pakistan, things between the two countries now seem to be a very tricky throw of the dice which could turn in any direction.
