Hamas

A major shift is unfolding in Gaza after Hamas announced the temporary dissolution of its emergency governing committee, marking one of the most significant changes to the group's civilian administration since it took control of the territory nearly two decades ago. The move paves the way for a proposed technocratic civilian administration under the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a body expected to oversee civilian governance during the next phase of the post-war transition. Hamas also confirmed the resignation of Emergency Committee chief Mohammed Al-Farra as part of the restructuring process. While the decision is being viewed as a significant political development, it does not resolve the biggest obstacle to a broader peace agreement. Israel continues to insist that Hamas' weapons must be placed under the authority of the NCAG or another agreed security framework before any long-term settlement can move forward. The governance transition comes as negotiations over the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire remain stalled. Hamas has emphasized Israel's obligations under the ceasefire agreement, while Israel maintains that it will not accept a return of Hamas rule and has also rejected an immediate transfer of power to the Palestinian Authority. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have released dramatic footage showing precision strikes targeting Hamas operatives in northern Gaza. According to the IDF, four members of Hamas' military wing, including a platoon commander, a sniper and two anti-tank operatives, were killed during operations carried out over the past week. The military also says it destroyed multiple rocket launchers and launch shafts used by Hamas. The footage shows one of the strikes taking place while civilian traffic passes nearby. The IDF says it used precision-guided munitions, aerial surveillance and advance warnings to reduce civilian harm before carrying out the operation.
