A massive fire broke out on the night of May 4 in a five-storey building in Kanpur’s Chamanganj area, claiming the lives of a couple and their three young daughters. The blaze, suspected to be caused by a short circuit, erupted between 8:30 and 8:45 PM and continued until the early hours of May 5. The building housed shoe manufacturing units on the lower floors. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, and emergency teams evacuated nearby residents for safety. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. Among them was Shubham Dwivedi — a newlywed from Kanpur who had gone on a short vacation with his wife. Dwivedi was shot dead and his face was disfigured in the targeted killing of tourists. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday met the grieving family in Kanpur. The family is demanding the status of ‘shaheed (martyr)’ for Dwivedi.
30 April,2025 07:12 PM ISTOn Wednesday, 35 people were injured when a tractor trolley overturned in the Ganjdundwara area of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, the people in the vehicle were returning from the 'Ganga Snan' (a religious bathing ritual) when the tractor lost control and flipped over. The injured were immediately taken to the Ganjdundwara Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rajesh Kumar Bharti, confirmed the incident. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, but several people sustained injuries. This accident is not the first of its kind in the region. In December 2024, 26 people were injured in a separate road accident in Kasganj, where a tractor collided with a pickup truck that was carrying passengers returning from a marriage ceremony. These incidents highlight ongoing road safety concerns in the area.

This phase extends the North-South Metro Corridor from Phase I, featuring a mainline from APMC to Motera, extending to Mahatma Mandir, and a branch line from GNLU to GIFT City.
