Manufacturing
Donald Trump has announced sweeping new tariffs of up to 100 per cent on patented pharmaceutical imports, aiming to push global drugmakers to move manufacturing to the United States. Companies that shift production and reduce prices can avoid the tariffs, while those that partially comply may face 20 percent duties. Firms that refuse both conditions could be hit with tariffs as high as 100 percent. Generic medicines are currently exempt from the policy, offering temporary relief for India, which dominates global generic drug exports. However, officials have warned the exemption may be reviewed if production is not relocated to the United States.
