Stromboli, one of Europe’s most active volcanoes, put on a spectacular show as it erupted once again, sending fountains of incandescent lava and ash into the night sky over the Aeolian Islands in Sicily, Italy. Known as the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean,” Stromboli’s near-continuous Strombolian activity lit up the darkness with glowing explosions, offering a dramatic display visible from the sea and surrounding areas.
