Kerala is facing a rapidly worsening monsoon disaster as relentless rainfall continues to trigger landslides, flash floods and widespread destruction across the state. The death toll has climbed to eight, including three children, as heavy rain batters several districts and rescue teams race against time to save lives. The worst-hit regions include Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki, where landslides have flattened homes, destroyed infrastructure and left families devastated. In Kottayam, a landslide crushed a house, killing two women, while separate landslides in Idukki claimed two more lives as torrential rain continued to lash the hill districts. The humanitarian impact continues to grow, with more than 1,300 people taking shelter in relief camps across Kerala. Kottayam and Pathanamthitta account for the highest number of relief camps as displacement rises and rescue operations expand. WATCH

Assam continues to battle a devastating flood crisis as relentless rainfall and overflowing rivers leave a trail of destruction across the state. The death toll has risen to 78, with three more fatalities reported in the latest wave of flooding, while seven districts remain submerged, affecting nearly three lakh people. According to official figures, floodwaters have inundated 551 villages, forcing thousands of families to leave their homes as roads, schools, bridges and public infrastructure remain underwater. The disaster has also dealt a severe blow to agriculture, with more than 21,500 hectares of cropland damaged, raising concerns over livelihoods and food security. The Assam government has intensified relief efforts by dispatching 30 trucks loaded with food, clothing and other essential supplies to the worst-affected districts. In a major relief announcement, the Himanta Biswa Sarma government has approved ₹15,000 in immediate financial assistance for every flood-affected family to help them cope with the crisis. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation with Assam MPs and assured full cooperation between the Centre and the state government to strengthen rescue, rehabilitation and relief measures.
