Work on war-ravaged Afghanistan's first international cricket stadium started Tuesday, with the government hoping the game can contribute to peace and stability in the country.

A crowd gathered at the Kabul National Cricket Stadium as Finance Minister Mohammad Omer Zakhiwal and United States Ambassador Karl W. Eikenberry laid foundation stones to inaugurate the ground's renovation to international standards.
