Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) Apex Council, at its meeting with representatives of office clubs on Thursday, took some crucial decisions to strengthen office cricket, acknowledging its role in providing players with both sporting opportunities and career stability.
In honour of former Mumbai captain, late Milind Rege, a Fund for Advancement of Cricketing Excellence (FACE) has been instituted to nurture talent and promote cricketing excellence. For emerging office cricketers, the Eknath Solkar award has been initiated to promising talent.
Finally, MCA also decided to extend financial support of Rs 10,000 per match to all affiliated office clubs. “Over the years, many players, who went on to represent Mumbai and India, first proved themselves by performing in office club cricket. Through these initiatives, MCA is proud to honour the contributions of legends like Milind Rege and Eknath Solkar too,” said MCA President Ajinkya Naik.
