Team India is set to gear up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to kick off from September 9.
With the tournament just around the corner, Team India's think tank has a choice to make among many players for the top and middle order of the batting lineup.
Among all other players, one batsman who stands out is Shreyas Iyer. Former Team India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that Iyer needs to be spoken about ahead of the continental tournament.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash recollected the time when Shreyas delivered crucial performances in the Champions Trophy 2025.
"Shreyas Iyer needs to be spoken about because when we were watching the Champions Trophy, no Indian player was better than him in the middle overs," he said.
"He was the guy who was taking the attack to the opposition. He was the guy who was hitting boundaries whenever he wished, and removing the pressure on the batter at the other end," added the former cricketer.
Further, pressing more on Iyer's inclusion, Chopra said that we have seen that T20 selections are based on IPL.
"After that came the IPL. There were plenty of pressures. This was Shreyas Iyer's best-ever IPL season. We have repeatedly seen that T20 selections are based on IPL performances," said the 47-year-old.
He then named a few players who were added to the Indian side, considering their IPL performances.
"We have seen that with Varun Chakaravarthy, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and everyone. If we see it from that token, Shreyas Iyer deserves to play," he observed.
Aakash also added that Tilak would bat at number three or four and looks "unstoppable" as India's number three. In 13 T20Is as India's designated number three, Tilak has managed 443 runs at an average of 55.37, with a strike rate of almost 170, with two centuries and two fifties.
The "Men in Blue" will play their tournament opening match against the UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Stadium. The most electrifying clash between the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, will be played on September 14 at the same venue.
