In the first match of the 'Super Four' stage of Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka posted a total of 168 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the Dubai International Stadium.
Dasun Shanaka was the standout performer for Sri Lanka. Facing 37 balls, he scored an unbeaten 64 runs, including three boundaries and six maximums.
Batting first, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened the innings for Sri Lanka. Nissaka scored 22 runs in 15 balls, with the help of three boundaries and a maximum. On the other hand, Kusal accumulated 34 runs off 25 deliveries, which were laced with a boundary and three maximums.
Kamil Mishara scored five runs in 11 balls, while Kusal Perera scored 16 runs in the same number of balls. He also smashed a boundary.
Later, skipper Charith Asalanka garnered 21 runs after facing just 12 balls. During his knock, he smashed a boundary and a maximum. Kamindu Mendis departed early on the score of one run in two balls, followed by Wanindu Hasaranga, who scored two runs in two balls.
Along with Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage stayed unbeaten at the crease without facing a single ball.
Meanwhile, for Bangladesh, star pacer Mustafizur Rahman emerged as the most-successful bowler. Completing his spell of four overs, he conceded 20 runs and bagged three wickets.
Mahedi Hasan also claimed two wickets for 25 runs in four overs while Taskin Ahmed bagged a wicket. He bowled four overs and registered one scalp to his name after being smashed for 37 runs.
Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed went wicketless in the Asia Cup 2025 match. Bowling four overs, Islam was smashed for 49 runs, whereas Ahmed leaked 36 runs in his quota of four overs.
Bangladesh now needs to chase a target of 169 runs in 20 overs against the Sri Lankan bowlers.
After concluding with this game, the Lankans will clash against Pakistan on September 23, followed by the match against Team India on September 26.
Meanwhile, the "Bengal Tigers" will lock horns against India on September 24, and later will take on Pakistan on September 25.
