As Team India registered a dominating victory against the UAE in the Asia Cup 2025, Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel heaped praise on the bowlers by saying that focused preparation has finally paid off.
"Yeah, a very solid start by the boys with the ball tonight. We haven't played a lot of wide-ball cricket for a while, so I thought that leading into the game, our preparation was very focused. I think that is one thing that we did exceptionally well," Morkel said in a video posted by the official social media handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
After winning the toss, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav had opted to bowl first in their Asia Cup 2025 opening match against the UAE.
Batting first, the UAE's innings was wrapped up for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs. India's wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav claimed four wickets, followed by Shivam Dube's three-wicket haul. Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy registered one wicket each to their names.
Later, India chased down the target by posting 60 runs for the loss of one wicket in 4.3 overs.
Abhishek Sharma delivered a fiery knock. Facing just 16 deliveries, the swashbuckling left-hander smashed 30 runs, which was laced with two boundaries and three maximums.
After his departure, Shubman Gill and skipper Suryakumar Yadav stayed unbeaten at the crease. Facing just nine balls, Shubman scored 20 runs, including two boundaries and a maximum. On the other hand, Suryakumar accumulated seven runs in two balls, with the help of a maximum.
With this, the "Men in Blue" will now lock horns against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.
