After announcing the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, one of the prominent names that was missing from the Indian team was that of Shreyas Iyer's.
Following his omission from the national squad, former Team India batsman Robin Uthappa expressed concern and said that it seems strange not to have a player who has helped the side win the Champions Trophy 2025 title.
He took to his official social media handle and shared a post that read, "There are around 18 T20I's to go before India play the next #T20WC; not having #ShreyasIyer who was integral in helping you win the CT seems strange. But one can only hope that he gets into this side soon coz he deserves it! I hope they have communicated to him about his exclusion. #AsiaCup2025 #TeamIndia".

In Champions Trophy 2025, Iyer was India's highest run-scorer. Having played five matches in the tournament, the right-hander had scored 243 runs, including two half-centuries. His top score in the event was 79 runs.
Apart from the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer also ended the IPL 2025 as the sixth-highest run-scorer. Featuring in 17 matches, the right-hander had scored 604 runs with a strike rate of 175.07 and six half-centuries. He also had an average of 50.33 with a top score of an unbeaten 97 runs.
Team India will kick off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on September 10, while the high-voltage game against Pakistan is scheduled for September 14, with both fixtures set to be played in Dubai. India will play their final group stage fixture against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
