The Men in Blue are all set to begin their Asia Cup 2025 journey with a clash against hosts UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Stadium. Following their opener, India will face their arch rivals, Pakistan, in a highly anticipated encounter on September 14, before wrapping up the group stage with a match against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

Heading into the tournament, India are widely regarded as favourites to lift the trophy once again, given their depth, balance, and past record in the competition. Over the years, the team has been a dominant force in the Asia Cup, having won the title on eight occasions, in 1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, 2016, 2018, and 2023.

Speaking about India's rich legacy in the tournament, vice-captain Shubman Gill confidently said, "Eight times, to be precise."

In this year’s edition, India is set to face tough competition from a well-rounded pool of teams, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong. The road to the final won’t be easy, but India’s recent form and squad depth make them one of the teams to beat.

Meanwhile, the tournament kicked off with an impressive performance by Afghanistan, who registered a commanding 94-run victory over Hong Kong in the opening game. Azmatullah Omarzai starred in the match, earning the Player of the Match award for his all-round brilliance. With the bat, Omarzai hammered 53 runs off just 21 balls, while with the ball, he was economical and effective, conceding only four runs in two overs and picking up a wicket.

Team India squad for Asia Cup: Surya Kumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh.

Reserve players: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal.
