In the Asia Cup 2025 match against Hong Kong, Bangladesh secured a victory by seven wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
During the match, Towhid Hridoy played a crucial role by delivering a match-winning knock for Bangladesh. Facing 36 deliveries, he played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs, including a boundary.
After the win, when asked if he was thinking of finishing the match early, he said, "Obviously it was there in the mind but the main thing was that we don't lose the match".
Hridoy then said that he tried to play a few shots, but was not able to connect them.
"We could have finished the game earlier. I tried to play a few shots but couldn't connect. Maybe we could have wrapped it up one or two overs earlier, but in the end the result is important," said the 24-year-old.
His composure in the middle overs proved crucial, as Bangladesh sealed a comfortable win to open their campaign on a positive note.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost both openers Parvez Hossain Emon (19) and Tanzid Hasan (14) cheaply before Litton and Towhid Hridoy stitched a decisive 95-run partnership. Litton Das was the Player of the Match for his brilliant 59.
For Hong Kong, Ateeq Iqbal returned figures of 2/14, but it wasn't enough to stop Bangladesh from clinching their first win of the tournament.
After Bangladesh and Hong Kong's match, the Asia Cup 2025 will now head into the clash scheduled to be played between Pakistan and Oman on September 12.
On the other hand, the "Bengal Tigers" will lock horns against Sri Lanka on September 13 in their upcoming clash of the Asia Cup 2025.
So far in Group A of the ongoing continental event, Team India is enjoying the top spot on the table with two points, followed by the UAE. In Group B, Afghanistan is placed in the top spot with two points, followed by Bangladesh.
The mega clash of the marquee event between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, is scheduled to be played on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.
