In the Asia Cup 2025 match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh posted 139 runs. Riding on the late heroics from Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain, the side managed to reach a respectable total despite losing early wickets.

Bangladesh was put to bat first, posting a total of 139 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. The Lankans will now have to chase the target of 140 runs to register their first victory in Asia Cup 2025.


Opening the innings for the "Bengal Tigers", Tanzid Hasan failed to score and departed for a six-ball duck. Fellow opening batsman, Parvez Hossain Emon, too, followed his footsteps and returned to the pavilion on a duck after facing four balls.



Despite the side witnessing their opening duo return early to the pavilion, skipper and wicket-keeper Litton Das played a knock of 28 runs off 26 deliveries, which was laced with four boundaries.

Towhid Hridoy attempted to shoulder his skipper but was run out by Kamil Mishara. Facing nine balls, he scored just eight runs while Mahedi Hasan registered nine runs in seven balls, including a boundary.

Later, Ali and Hossain stayed unbeaten at the crease. Facing 34 balls, Ali scored an unbeaten 41 runs, including two boundaries. On the other hand, Hossain played a fighting knock of 42 runs off 34 deliveries, which was laced with three boundaries and a maximum.

Sri Lanka's star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga bagged two wickets by conceding 25 runs in his spell of four overs. Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera registered one wicket each to their names. Bowling four overs, Thushara conceded 17 runs, and Chameera was smashed for 17 runs in four overs.

Three of the Sri Lankan bowlers went wicketless in the Asia Cup 2025 match against Bangladesh.

Charith Asalanka bowled one over and conceded six runs. Matheesha Pathirana leaked 42 runs in his spell of four overs, without claiming any wickets. On the other hand, Dasun Shanaka, too, was smashed for 27 runs in three overs.

With an aim of chasing the target of 140 runs, Sri Lanka will heavily rely on the performances of their star batsmen, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.

Bangladesh had earlier won their first match of the continental tournament against Hong Kong by seven wickets.
